Alex's Top 10 Music Blogfest

Monday, January 24, 2011

Today I'm joining Alex's Top 10 music blogfest. Music being my primary source of inspiration for... well, life in general, I really have looked forward to it. I love music, have a very eclectic collection and found this to be harder than I thought.

To have to pick just 10 songs is like someone telling me, "lose a limb, you pick." On top of my personal difficulty in choosing, I had trouble with Mixpod. Either they did not have my song, the sound sucked or the video was even worse. I need to learn how to record and embed my own music. Anywho...

My song selection based on availability from MixPod:
  1. Gasoline Alley by Rod Stewart. I loved Rod right up until he asked, "Do ya think I'm sexy?" Then he lost me. But the era of this song was a very special time in music and for me.
  2. Hotel California by The Eagles. To me one of the first mixed genre groups; rock, country or maybe pop? They represent my noise in the background group. Something I can listen to and still think about other things, like writing this post.
  3. Midnight Rider by The Allman Brothers. My heroes, Guitar wizards! My blues entry in this fest. To me the blues are the backbone to most rock music we now listen to. Mixpod has a crappy blues selection.
  4. Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down. Represents my modern rock category. There is a lot of good new music out there, most not played on commercial radio. This just stuck out.
  5. Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. Another blues sort of gent I have collected for years. It was a toss up between this and Caravan. My road trip music.
  6. Let's get it on by Marvin Gaye. My dance entry. Representing my Motown moods. I can chair dance to this song better than I care to admit.
  7. Check It Out by John Mellencamp. Wish he would leave his name alone. My tune for the rebels of the world. He represents all those songs that fight for the underdog.
  8. Softer Place to Fall by Allison Moorer. The first time I saw this woman I fell in love with her voice. My "as close to country," as I'm going to get entry. I love these in-between artists, in fact I love seeing people not well known. I once saw Melissa Etheridge for a can of food and $2.
  9. Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Eva Cassidy. Now you have to know any music list of mine is going to have this song. Though I have over 30 different versions of this song, MixPod does not.
  10. Amazing Grace by Leann Rimes. I received a lecture for not having any "Church Music" in the last fest I entered. Mom this is for you. I found this today and loved it. I must have a religious section.
  11. Bonus Track: Crawfishin by Tab Benoit. I included this for all my Louisiana followers. Seen this guy 3 times and I just love his music. This is my first choice when it comes to genre, besides he is adorable.
As you can see I have a diverse music selection, selecting 10 was painful. Now if someone can teach me how and where to upload my own music and get the player I would be oh so grateful.I might even start turning you on to artists you might never have heard of.

Please visit Alex's blog to find the other entries in the fest and see what great tunes they have selected. Alex, thanks my man, anything with music gets me fired up!

Peace.....

A lovely collection of songs, Jules. Hotel California and Somwhere Over The Rainbow are great songs. And yes, it was very difficult to choose just ten songs!

Definitely a variety of choices here. It does become painful having to select 10 songs out of however vast a library of music we have, isn't it?

I feel the same way about music! It inspires me :) We have different taste in music, but that is partially due to our age difference and the fact that I...as a middle aged white woman, am a fan of rap. even so, love getting to know more about you and music speaks volumes!

"HOTEL CALIFORNIA" - the original studio version with Joe Walsh includes unquestionably one of the greatest Rock guitar solos (electric) ever recorded.

And good for your Ma for calling you out about not havin' no "Church Music" in your previous blogfest entry (whatever that was).

I've got "How I Got Over" by Mahalia on my list. Now that's SERIOUS(!) Church music.
