I Wonder What Choices They Will Make?

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Gazing out the window, once again the rain was dripping from the trees. Nowhere to be, nothing really planned to accomplish, she looked down and asked her furry companion, “What choices should we make for today?” What a strange concepts, she thought, choices?

Slowly sipping hot coffee her mind wandered and the realty of the word weighed heavy on her heart. Throughout the globe, she just knew, others are asking them selves exactly that same question. It made her ponder, “ I wonder what choices they will make today?”

Youth in a Barrel, Who Knew?

Friday, July 30, 2010

Eyes puffy and swollen from lack of sleep, she searched her mind for clarity. But her mind kept returning to the kitchen table where a small barrel full of wooden shapes now resided. What on earth had possessed her to purchase it and why had it kept her up all night?

Yesterday she was strolling the aisles of her local Peddlers Mall when a lonely barrel had caught her eye. Sitting there tucked away on the floor, partially hidden by a pair of gaudy drapes, she had seen the bottom rim. Without hesitating she placed the small barrel in her cart to purchase, three dollars was deal and so she took her barrel home.

Help.. What's This Mean?

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

I know there are people who believe deeply in the star-studded concept of horoscopes and to you I mean no disrespect. I just find them entertaining; I do not plan my life around them. Sometimes I find them enlightening, sometimes worrisome and sometimes they just confuse me. Like take today’s bit of gibberish:

“It seems as if a phase of your life is falling away, yet you aren't that unhappy about its demise. If you are floating along, waiting for something to come up and inspire you, this could be it. It's like expecting guests, yet you don't know who they are or when they will arrive. Nevertheless, there is a lot to do right now, so get busy without wasting a precious moment.”

Tuesday's Thought........Just A Lump of Clay

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Listening to classic vinyl, she sat intently staring upon the broken down piece of clay there on the coffee table. “What on earth had possessed the artist to mangle such a piece of art?” she asked herself. What had forced such a transformation? Why had she felt the need to purchase such a piece?

As she continued to gaze, it became evident the piece had begun as another preconceived shape, “definitely it had started out as a more traditional piece,” she thought. And yet some reason the creative process had changed. Why? Why had a new vision emerged, what had transpired?

So Much For Tranquility, Someone Call The Police

Monday, July 26, 2010

Slowly inching toward the door, mow resting partly a jar, she felt a sudden tinge of panic. Had she merely forgot to latch the hasp and the wind exposed her absent mind? Maybe her houseguest had been searching for the rake she had conveniently forgotten to put by the door as they had requested? No, even in her surreal state of mind, this was no accident; this was deliberate.

And no, this is not the beginning of another story, this was the peaceful Sunday I had hoped for. My tranquil day was spent trying to figure out why people feel the need to steal from one another and filing a police report. Yes, I was robbed.

For Sunday Just a Word......

Sunday, July 25, 2010

Sunday I think should be a day of rest, a day you rejuvenate yourself for the week to come. In this fashion today I will make it short, yet hopefully leave you some small tidbit to ponder this afternoon.

Today I wish to provide you with a word, the word’s definition and a question regarding the word and how we use it.

Handicap: something that makes progress difficult; a disadvantage imposed on a superior competitor to equalize chances; a physical or mental handicap.”

Since I believe definitions are added in order by the time frame in which the word is used, here is my question.

If the first definition was applied, it could be applied to us all and if the second definition were the true meaning of the word, then why on earth did we even need the third definition?

You think about it.

Rest, relax, rejuvenate but think twice before you use a word.

One World and Two Wandering Souls

Saturday, July 24, 2010

Silently sitting on a sandy beach, somewhere just out of the waters reach a girl is lost in thought. The sun just popped up its head filling the sky with glorious color. Not noticing this array she stares blindly at the waves softly lapping the shore and wonders, “Where have you been all night?”

The lapping water creates a foamy footprint and deposits small trinkets in homage to its visit but the girl remains in thought. She imagines all the wondrous stories that water could tell. Stories of all the places it had been, of all the creatures it contains. Still she had to wonder, “How does it find its way back to this sandy place called home?”

I Have a Secret Admirer......

Friday, July 23, 2010

Yesterday I came to think I must have a secret admirer. Not the average; send me flowers, send me a gift admirer, but rather a thoughtful admirer or so I believed. How do you know they are admirers, anyway?

Aren’t secret admirers generally someone whom we leave a wonderful lasting impression with? Someone that follows up with an unexpected something and a note that reads, “Thank you, a secret admirer?” I can honestly think of no such encounter recently.

But then, my secret admirer left no such note, just numerous unexpected items all in the form of emails. They seem to have my best interest at heart or at least that is what I hoped.

I Have to Ask, Are Those Your Shoes?

Thursday, July 22, 2010

The past three days had been full of storms, making for a bleak existence. Today she was glad to see the sun finally back peeking in her window as if to say, “I’m back, today will be brighter you will see.” Today, OMG I’m late, get up.

She did not think of anything at the time except, don’t be late. She paid no mind to the outfit she selected or how her makeup lacked styling. “Just cover the remnants of sleep,” she thought. As her final act she grabbed a pair of shoes from the floor, slipped them on and out the door she went.

It's A Fire Drill, I Can't Turn it Down

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

If I described to you shuffling into a hall, taking a seat on the floor and being told to cover your head, you would know what I’m talking about right? As a child I grew up practicing emergency drills at school and I remember thinking, “If this is a drill, why does the alarm have to sound so long?” At what age do we forget this training?

A couple of days ago my phone rang, it was my grandmother. I started to say, “hello” but was cut off in mid word. I could tell she was all on edge by her first statement, “I’ve lost my ear plugs!” She had requested a pair several weeks ago and I had obeyed her request by taking her a pair. Though I never really understood why she wanted them.

Emotional Roller Coaster, They Committed Suicide

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Emotional roller coasters can come with the drop of a hat. Brought on by the smallest of things and none of us are exempt, including myself. Yesterday I would experience such a coaster ride. Not a pleasant experience either, don’t you agree?

The emotional high was to come in the mail and politely be followed by an emotional low I did not see coming. When the mail arrived yesterday I thought nothing more of it and sat it on the kitchen table. It wasn’t until Ms. Twister began to open the envelopes that my emotional roller coaster ride took off.
Little did I know this was the big hill part of the roller coaster ride?

Bill in hand, sort of waving it at me, she proclaimed, “I guess you did it, looks like all your efforts paid off.” “What on earth are you talking about?” I responded. Months ago I had given up hope on reducing the dang thing so her comments just did not register.

If My Life Did Have A Movie...Turn The Sound On

Monday, July 19, 2010

As I warned you I accepted Tossing It Out’s challenge of, “If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be?” I must say this has been a most challenging question to say the least. But I will do my best.

Should my life ever become a movie complete with soundtrack I know it would be given an “R” rating, I have never shied away from new, interesting things. Regardless of what that good angel my mother put on my shoulder was screaming. But let us start the movie.

Sunday Kind of Love

Sunday, July 18, 2010

Just a quick short note.

I'm taking a day for myself. I need to play a bit, romp in the grass, don't you know.
So I will spend the day with my furry friends and the cable repair man and see you here again tomorrow.

Monday I will be participating in explaining "The Soundtrack of My Life." If you would like to join up and do your own explanation hop on over to Tossing It Out.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Sunday.

All Blogs Have White Space

Saturday, July 17, 2010

I was up way too early this morning and while sitting in total silence I became aware of a hidden space. Not an ordinary space. If fact, I venture to say most would not even notice it as space. Still I found it; want to know where it is? Can I tell you what you will find?

Unless you look close, you think it to be an empty, void space and assume nothing to be there. That assumption would be wrong. This is anything but an empty or void space, I even wonder if it has enough space. I know, what is this space I keep referring to? Well, it is right here, can you not see it? Look closer.

Just A Smile, Ask The Shoeshine Man

Friday, July 16, 2010

Yesterday was such a wonderful day for me, reading all those comments and gathering new friends, I had fun. Thank you all. But this morning as I tired to write I felt somewhat pressured and began to be over whelmed by the fear of how to follow such a whirlwind post. So how do I follow that?

I pulled up some rough drafts I had wrote and found this one. I hope you don’t mind but I felt it attribute to the emotions I have from your presence here yesterday. Please except it as my thank you for commenting on and following my blog.

Oh Goodie, I was Tagged, You Want to Know What?

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Yesterday I had the honor of being recognized by a fellow blogger and was Tagged in her post. So what on earth have I been tagged for and whom bestowed this honor on me? Well of all things I was tagged to reveal the contents of my purse and the tagger was Olivia  over at The Rebel With A Blog.

First, let me get this out of the way. I would like to THANK Olivia for this milestone this is a first for me, being mentioned on another blog. Aren’t firsts just grand!

Now my purse. Let me begin by saying for those whom know me know purse is not in my vocabulary. Bag, satchel, grocery tote are more to the true description of how I pack around my essentials. Besides the definition of purse is, “small pouch for carrying money,” therefore my bag is more a survive kit. Look…

Support An Artist; Buy A Lawn Tractor

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

As I looked out my kitchen window this morning at the newly formed dew, I was amazed at the sparkling reflections. It seemed as though the shimmer of light on the new moisture was doing a happy, welcome to the party, sun greeting. But wait, what kind of dance formation is that?

As I followed the glistening pattern further and further around the yard, it became very apparent to me, this was not the dew’s doing. The dew had no responsibility at all for what I was gazing upon, Ms. Twister…

Veggie of the Year. Hey, Did You Get to Vote?

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

I received an email this morning that honestly has me contemplating what actually is in my salad? I’m sure it was sent as one of those funny, yet statistical attempts to brighten my day but it has left me somewhat perplexed.  What was in this email? Well the title read, “Cucumber; veggie of the year.”

Yes, the cucumber. I did not know we could even cast a ballot for vegetable of the year; maybe I should network more? Any who; let me recap the reasons this green tubular should be vegetable of the year and why now I am so perplexed.

The Beauty of a Storm: It's Hand Tool Sort of Day

Monday, July 12, 2010

Sometime in the night it stormed. I know this because at some point I awoke to the gentle, eerie warning sound of thunder, I was not alarmed and rolled over to continue my rest. Trying to roll back into dreamland I heard the rain pounding on the roof and as I nodded off I remember thinking, “What will the morning bring?”

The morning has arrived and along with it, brought yet another new day. So why had the storm felt the need to awake me in the middle of the night? Why had the gentle eerie warning of thunder not jolted me out of bed as it as always done before? Had it been a dream, had it really stormed at all?

Oh, It's You!

Sunday, July 11, 2010

As I sit here searching for a topic that stirs from within I sense I’m being watched. It is an eerie feeling to sense the weigh of another’s eyes covertly watching from a distance. Your mind will play tricks on you, you begin to develop paranoia and finally you will blurt out, “Who is there?”

The response I waited for was not what I expected. For I had heard no sound of intrusion, I had seen no shadows move from the corner of my eye and yet I blurted out the command, “expose your self.” Which to my surprise they did.

Networking: It's An Order!

Saturday, July 10, 2010

It is official, I have been told I to get out of the house. No, I was not evicted or anything such as that. This is my housemate’s public service announcement for the week. My housemate swears it is for my own good. I need to network, network?

My housemate (let’s call her Twister) has informed me ever so stern I need to get out and network. What exactly does that mean? Is networking the professional version of “girls night out?” What ever,Twister informed me, “meeting people will lead to contacts and contacts lead to jobs, just do it.”

Yes, I am a Renaissance Woman

Friday, July 9, 2010

I once was called a renaissance woman and yes, I know it was meant as a compliment. In fact I took pride in that title for many years. Do you know what it really means to be a renaissance woman?

It is not as easy as it may sound. After all there is no curriculum for graduating to this status. You have no association to join, no continuing education requirements to meet; why you can’t even include it on your resume. So to be a renaissance woman…..

The Wisdom of Great-Grandmother's

Thursday, July 8, 2010

We all flit around in our daily lives doing whatever it is we do to make it our lives. Wandering from situation to situation we at times tend to think poor me, why me, or that should have been me. If there is one thing I have learned in my short life it is, “Nothing is as it seems.”

As a child being scared to death of certain types of movies I can recall what my Great-Grandmother would tell me, “Honey, it is only a movie, there is nothing to fear.” I have carried those words with me my entire life and while the words do not apply to adult situations, the sentiment does.

It's A Heat Wave and I Had Peas For Dinner

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

I don’t know about you but where I am we are in the grips of a heat wave and being hot and sweating is my least favorite thing. That does not mean I can shuck my outdoor duties nor does it mean that I cannot find humor in it either. So in 95-degree heat how on earth did I find humor?

I knew first thing it was going to be a real hot one. How, you ask? As I opened the door for my furry friends to have their morning romp, all three stopped suddenly at the door. In unison I heard them say, “No way, we can hold it.”

Comments

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Apparently something is wrong with Commenting today on Google. My follower over at "Welcome to My World of Poetry," brought this to my attention because she feared it only her. It is not. Since my morning post I have had several comments but they are not appearing on the blog.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I received the notification I had new comments but the post shows no comments, only my response. Do we all have to use a new template now? I don't wanna, not yet.

Please advice us both if you are aware of the issue and whether it is something we can fix. I could not find anything via blogger help. I found a link for reporting issues  and will try this. Should you have a response or fix you might have to email it to me. I have turned that on in my profile, with no comments I had to.

I hope I am not breaking some unwritten rule with this post. But I LOVE Comments.

To My Cyber Family......

This morning as I read around my blog world a sudden pang hit my heart. Reading posts I had some how missed, in part thanks to Google, the feeling of an extended cyber family started to take hold. Do you have times when you read another's post and think, “that is exactly what I feel, think or do?”

Well, today it was one post after another that touched my heart or made me think. Oh, I left comments and tired to share the emotion that the post had invoked but felt those comments to be shallow. I felt the need to expand, to reach out to those whom had shared and touched. So what had I read?

Coney Island Hotdog Contest: Hum?

Monday, July 5, 2010

I have one more day left to the holiday weekend, what will I do? Before I embark on some un-planned outing I have to ask you a question. Do you know who won the hotdog-eating contest? Have you ever seen one of these events?

I personally have not attended such an event but I have seen the results on television. Yesterday as I watched the proud winner raise his trophy belt and lift his bottle of pepto I thought how wrong this was on so many levels.

Exactly where did the idea of stuffing as many tube shaped, unhealthy, meat products down your throat in 5 minutes, come from and why? Did it start as a dare or was it a marketing ploy to attract children? Could this be another one of those guy things?

Family Cookouts Belong in a Treasure Chest

Sunday, July 4, 2010

Yesterday I posted my intentions for celebrating the 4th of July by attending a family cookout and I wish to report it was a blast. Since it had been years since my fourth had included a family cookout I was not sure what to expect. So I have to ask, have ever thought about all the little family nuances that make getting together so much fun?

Take getting there. I have a knack for always being in the wrong lane on the interstate when it comes to making a right or a left choice. Yesterday was no exception, thanks to the “bitch in the box” though it was no problem. Turn on the GPS, go around the block and poof, you’re back on track. My arrival was achieved.

Arriving a wee bit early allowed me to view other guests as they arrived, priceless. Every family has a gypsy, don’t they? My mother is ours and apparently her invitation said, “Bring the farm.”

The Fourth on the Third

Saturday, July 3, 2010

I do not know who came up with the concept of rotating holidays with the day most convenient but it really is confusing. Today we will celebrate the Fourth of July on the Third of July. Why? Don't you have Monday off? Well, anyway I made plans.

I'm taking the day to celebrate my freedom. I will fill it with tradition and in honor of being a free American I will drive an hour on a busy freeway, hope the policeman's radar is broke. Party with some people I do not know and pray they are having a good time. Eat enough food to feed Haiti, play senseless games and enjoy a few beverages. Then to top things off I will deafen myself at the local firework display. What did you say?

Then just before the horses turn back into mice and the coach becomes a pumpkin I will return to the same freeway. I will place myself along side all the other celebrating, free Americans who are just trying to get back home and pray we all have enough stamina for reach our destination.

I wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July or 3rd as the case may be. Come back and visit on Sunday when your head stops throbbing and lets catch up. I'd love to hear about your celebrating, did you see any fireworks?

HAPPY FOURTH!!

A Fish Story of the Golden Kind

Friday, July 2, 2010

Before I prepare for the holiday weekend I have to digress a bit and tell you a fish story. Since I am one who enjoys fishing this tale took me awhile to realize as truth. In fact, I have put off writing this post because I knew proof would be required, I have proof. So what is the fish story?

Well, several weeks ago while again touring the cemetery with my Grandmother and my Mother we drove by the duck ponds and paused. Yes, I know I spend a lot of time in the cemetery but it is a part of my grandmother and she loves the place. Who am I to deny her this simple pleasure?

Anyway, back to the fish story. As we sat there in front of the pond discussing past memories of feeding the ducks as children and all the antics my elders endured, I had a flash back of another creature we use to feed.

Are Your Wires Fuzzy?

Thursday, July 1, 2010

I thought yesterday would be an uneventful day that I could mark off a couple of items from my long list of procrastinations. After all I had started the day with a doable game plan and a can-do attitude. But what I received instead was a startling discovery. So I have to ask, are your wires fuzzy?

Last week my housemate had inherited a new television stand. After spending a week of running into it in the dark and bruising every toe on both feet I felt it time to find its place. If you have not moved your television in awhile I would highly recommend it.
