Can A True Love Return?

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Her heart skipped a beat as the evening news said their good-byes. Motionless she lye in a tomb of boundless covers and her eyes stared deep into the darkness. From within something sparked a light, “Could it really be?”

Without sight her waning memories began to flood her vision. A smile crept upon her face but was hidden by the shadows of night. How long had it been, did our absence change us, on and on questions of what once was crossed her lips, always ending with “Could it really be?”

Stormy Memories, Part 2

Monday, February 28, 2011

Have you ever been chased by a tornado? I mean a real, took Dorothy to Oz, tornado. Those rope looking cloud devils that on one hand can mesmerize you into a trance and on the other, inflict pain and destruction beyond belief. Honestly, I have.

I awoke this morning to that least favorite sound of mine, the storm siren. Warnings are going up for every county around and it made me remember. It brought back memories of storms I have been a part of and survived, for one the super outbreak of 1974. But, it was not until the mid-80’s that I became storm prey.

You Want Ice Photo’s?

Monday, December 20, 2010

Yes, as promised I will provide photos of the ice. I hope you enjoy because it sure was an adventure. My backyard has a ski slope built in, just getting down it was a crash course in ice walking.

Allow me to remind you, what looks like snow is actually ice balls. We received, so they say, an inch of snow, the rest is sleet/ice.  I hope you enjoy.

Old Man Winter, a Sense of Humor?

Friday, December 17, 2010

White, pure and simply white and yet, it is a deceiving white. She stopped for a moment as if frozen in time and just breathed. A cold sharp air filled her lungs and briefly jolted her senses. “Well, this is not right. Why do I feel so much when I’m cold?”

The morning light brought a frozen wonderland. Not the soft, snow globe, picturesque sort but rather a harsh crystallized encasement. A hand crafted reminder that old man winter was still king and he ruled his frozen realm. It did not deter her; something about the cold lit a spark.

Do You Have Ice Memories?

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

The memory of ice, yes my memory of ice. We are currently being warned of an impending ice storm and just the mention of this flooded my mind with memories. Have you ever experienced an ice storm?

The first ice storm I survived was major. A solid sheet of 1” thick ice covered everything by morning, though you do not sleep much in an ice storm. The first thing you notice will be the sound.

And How Was Your Weekend?

Monday, December 6, 2010

My beautiful people, it is Monday. How did that happen? Time seems to transpire whether we wish to use it or not and so went my weekend, it transpired. When I left you Friday I was heading to the bath room to rid myself of some lemonade and I did. What I found though was Jell-O.

Saturday I awoke to our first snow fall and it continued throughout the weekend. Thus the Jell-O, a stay in and shake sort of weekend.

I love waking before dawn and having the first rays of light cast color reflections on newly fallen snow. It seems to make the world seem so pure and peaceful.

Do You Have Stormy Dreams...

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

She dreamt of storm clouds. Clouds of towering, bellowing shades of gray that escalate into oblivion and can overtake the soul. Ominous clouds of vision that darken all in which we see and in her dream she was longing for...

Deep within the realm of sleep, she sat solely. Eyes focused squarely on the distant horizon she watched as her dark clouds grew. As if on cue and sensing the wonder in her eyes, toward her across the sky the storm did ramble.

Weather from a Hillbilly

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Today I am participating in a blogfest at The Writer's Hole, my second and the topic “weather.” Now I could wrote some story that was just long enough to wet your whistle or  about the meaningless examples of why you should/should not carry weather gear, but NO! I chose to write about how we hillbillies actually forecast and describe the weather.

Growing up in a Kentucky we learn very young, that television, bad outfit wearing, out-of-state weather persons know nothing of Kentucky weather; they just have not lived here long enough. In Kentucky if you do not like the weather, just wait a day. Television is not our main resource for weather. So, exactly how does a hillbilly predict and describe the weather?

The Beauty of a Storm: It's Hand Tool Sort of Day

Monday, July 12, 2010

Sometime in the night it stormed. I know this because at some point I awoke to the gentle, eerie warning sound of thunder, I was not alarmed and rolled over to continue my rest. Trying to roll back into dreamland I heard the rain pounding on the roof and as I nodded off I remember thinking, “What will the morning bring?”

The morning has arrived and along with it, brought yet another new day. So why had the storm felt the need to awake me in the middle of the night? Why had the gentle eerie warning of thunder not jolted me out of bed as it as always done before? Had it been a dream, had it really stormed at all?

It's A Heat Wave and I Had Peas For Dinner

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

I don’t know about you but where I am we are in the grips of a heat wave and being hot and sweating is my least favorite thing. That does not mean I can shuck my outdoor duties nor does it mean that I cannot find humor in it either. So in 95-degree heat how on earth did I find humor?

I knew first thing it was going to be a real hot one. How, you ask? As I opened the door for my furry friends to have their morning romp, all three stopped suddenly at the door. In unison I heard them say, “No way, we can hold it.”

Clouds: Old Anti-Depression Drug

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Being a baby boomer I did not grow up with toys to keep me occupied or out of my Mother’s hair. I was left to my own devices, devices I had to create to occupy my time, keep me in shouting distance and most of all out of trouble. The later I did not do well, but I found ways to pass my time, want to know what my favorite was?

I spent many a sunny day lying in the fields of the family farm just staring at clouds. Yes, I was a cloud watcher, a maker of objects from the white fluffy water molecules and I spent hours doing it. The picture show always amazed me and it was there anytime I chose to watch.

Electrical Storms Can Cause Withdraws

Sunday, May 2, 2010

Yesterday I was awakened by a clap of thunder only to have the power slowly fade to black, not a way to start a day. What was it Mom use to tell me? The angels are bowling? Well they must be holding some heavenly marathon because it is still storming. How does one survive in this day and age during an electrical storm?

As I gathered my usual power outage equipment of candles, flashlight, and battery radio a sudden terror struck me. I have no power I cannot make coffee. There are many things in life I can do without but coffee is not one of them.

Mother Nature: The Sun Is Shining

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Ah, the joy and agony of what spring has to bring for us. I do not know about you, but where I am for the first time in a month the sun is shining. It arose in an array of beautiful colors, the sky then became crystal clear blue and for once I did not need to wrap a blanket around me to get to my robe. Just looking out the window and seeing this sky gives my heart a ray of hope brighter days are coming.

It has been a long, hard winter for most of us Americans and warm, bright, sunny days are just what the doctor ordered. It brings out the hidden smiles we have been storing up all winter, makes us feel happy, and in general just changes our outlook on the day. Spring does have its challenges though and best we not forget; “in like a lamb, out like a lion.” Mother Nature tends to remind us in every season who really is the boss.

It is Not Nice To Complain

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

So you want to complain about all the snow and cold we have been receiving this year. You would like for spring to be here tomorrow. Well, this is what Mother Nature usually plans next for us...

Be very careful when you complain to Mother Nature.

Snow, Snow, Snow

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Well, today looks like a manual labor day. I awoke to about 4 inches of snow on the ground and it is still coming down. In order to get out I'll have to shovel the driveway and I do have to get out. Though my girls love the idea because I'm out with them. If it is going to be cold then let it snow. The funny thing is...

They are calling this a major snow storm; 4 inches and it is major. I guess a man did the measuring and then deemed 4 inches major. If size does matter then 4 inches seems insignificant. I wonder what they will call it when there really is a bad snow (above 6")? Weather does seem to freak people out or at least it does here in Kentucky.

Time is short for shoveling so for now I'd better run.
