Frantic Friday

Friday, August 26, 2011

Yes that is me on the beach!
“I wonder if Al Roker can float.” That is what I thought as I turned on the weather channel this morning. I have an extremely busy day scheduled, so knowing the weather was a must and to my surprise?

Al Roker is standing on a beach in Duck, NC. He must either make a ton of money or lost part of his brain with all that weight. I have been to Duck; in fact I have a ton of memories of Duck.

Art is Subjective

Monday, August 22, 2011

I just checked my blog with Windows IE and still you cannot read it. I’m hoping a new posting will correct this, but in case it does not, please trying reading with another browser if you have one. And how was your weekend?

Weekends now to me are like falling into another dimension of time. Ms. Twister whirls in with jet lag, road worn and tries to cram more in one day than a human can but her powers of observation never seems to fail her.

Road Trip Pictures

Monday, August 8, 2011

I left you last week discussing reflections of a completed project and my girls suggesting a road trip. I took the road trip, totally solo, a new feat for me. How was it and where did I go?

I packed my truck and headed dead north to the lovely city of Cleveland, Ohio. Situated on Lake Erie and home of the Rock n’ Roll hall of fame I saw and conquered as much of Cleveland as I could in one day. Allow me…

Dog Days of Summer

Friday, August 5, 2011

The sun went down, the weariness of the day sat in and my girls took pity. Just like children, animals have their moments when their soul is all you see. Moments when you just know exactly what they are thinking. Either that or I was more exhausted than I thought I was.

We sat in the living room, as we usually do on any given evening and I broke out the laptop. This is when their souls begin to chirp. As I looked up waiting for the screen to boot I swear I heard them say, “Mom, can we talk?”

Hillbillies and Art Museums

Friday, June 17, 2011

I thought in honor of summer I would share a memory with you. I was writing an email to a friend and it reminded me of one of my many escapades which now is a real laughable memory. Do you have memories like that?

I have driven through Atlanta speeding but never before visited. Not this time. This time I would get time to visit the famed High Art Museum with Ms. Twister in tow.

Can I Share My Lessons With You?

Thursday, October 21, 2010

With this being my first full post after my road trip I thought I might share with you what I actually learned. Have you ever done that, took a trip and then get home only to wonder what did I learn from that?

I do it every trip, sort of like the trip was meant to be an experience and I need to relish the lessons. This trip was no exception and now that I have had a day to think about it there were definitely some lessons.

Travel companions are easy targets but worth a mention. This trip I traveled with a very old, dear friend and her blind dog, the lesson? When a friend tells you they need a break and invite you for a road trip be forewarned it will be a long trip.

My travel companion talked the entire way, every waking moment and if she was not talking she was singing or humming. Being totally southern her accent is as thick as whipping cream and her speech as simple as it comes. Lesson here is to make sure you take a bag of saltwater taffy with you.

Wordless Wednesday: A Road Trip

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Our road trip began by heading through the mountains and heading all the way to the coast, 11 hours. We had 3 women and 2 dogs so pit stops were often. I've decided this post will be minimal words and mostly photos. I hope you enjoy.

Our first sunrise.

Poor fisherman had a hard time with these birds.

I loved the sea jewels left each morning, low tide was @ 9am everyday.

Dolphins at sun rise.

More treasures.

First sunset.

These little birds fascinate me.

I can still hear this sound.

Little guy was lonely.

Sun rise.

Breakfast.

Beach patrol. Fragile Mouse.

Sea Oats at Sun Set.

Waves at sun set.

Sea oats at Sun rise. Last Day.

Our drive home through the mountains.

I'm still trying to get back on schedule and hopefully tomorrow things will get back to normal. I hope everyone is still here. By the way the trip has screwed up my "O" so if you see one missing blame it on the beach.

Peace my children...

Can You Say: "Road Trip!"

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Hey, I’m not really here. No I’m not and right now I have no idea where I am.  By the time you read this I will be well on my way to a weekend adventure, a long weekend adventure. Fun right? Where am I going?

Before I divulge my mystery destination allow me to digress a bit. I have spent the last two days packing and preparing for this long, over due excursion and you know what? I realize now why I love backpacking.

With backpacking you take only what is required for survival and can fit in your pack. If it has a chord you do not need it. If you asked yourself will i get to…you don’t need it. If you cannot use it, eat it or wear it, leave it at home. Sounds simple… right? On the other hand, you have civilized traveling.

A Beach of a Memory

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

The good angel finally won. So, thank you very much, I feel worlds better today. This morning though, I realized what brought on my angel struggle.

It was the longing for a beach. Being unemployed, there will be no beach trip this year. Just hearing about that fellow Earl brought back a beach trip memory I thought I might share. Hope you don’t mind.

For years we did a pilgrimage in early October to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I love the place. It is unlike any other coastal community I have visited in the US. However getting to these barrier islands can be somewhat daunting to say the least.

The Many Hats of an Adventure

Sunday, August 8, 2010

The sun did shine bright over Kentucky; I could find no reason not to go on my big adventure. Despite the fact karma tired to deter me, explode my hot water heater and ruined my adventure planning, I went anyway. I flew by the seat of my pants, and the adventure?

Was the “World’s Longest Yard Sale.” Yes, I braved the heat, the crowds, met the girls of my family and went on a scavenger hunt. Though it was not treasures I found that left a lasting impression. It was all the many hats, what kind of hats?

Flying By The Seat of My Pants..

Friday, August 6, 2010

Last night, during a phone conversation with a relative, I was given flippant instructions. Nothing major or life altering; just an, off the cuff, comment that stuck in my head. Now some twelve hours later the sound of that comment still echoes. What on earth, "fly by the seat of my pants?”

Now exactly what does that mean? Are there pants out there equipped with a motor and propeller blades? “I think not and that most definitely would make my rear look big.” Oh, I get it, spontaneity!

Small Town Festivals and a Comic GPS

Monday, June 21, 2010

I must apologize for misleading you, I knew exactly what adventure I would get into this weekend but now that would not have been so enticing would it? I spent the weekend attending a free music festival here in Kentucky.

If you have never been to Kentucky it is full of small, Main street only towns that you can pass through in a blink of an eye. Henderson, Kentucky where the festival was held is a little larger than that but still a small city located right along side the Ohio River. Every year they hold a free Blues and Barbecue festival located in a riverside park. For the past 10 years this has become a “must do” summer outing for us.

It’s Not Raining, I’ll Go Outdoors

Thursday, May 6, 2010

I just wanted to be outdoors and enjoy the NOT raining weather; after all we just received ten inches of rain in two days. What I got was sore muscles and an adventure.

As I began my outdoor adventure the first order was to even reach the outdoors. My furry friends for whatever reason feel it is a timed event to reach the door first and the green flag is my working ball cap. Yesterday I made it to the hall before they realized I was wearing the cap. BOOM, the hat; get out of our way, we know where the door is and so the adventure begins.

Kentucky Rolex: Part 2

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Now that Mother Nature has finished her hissy fit I will continue my Kentucky Rolex experience. The Kentucky Rolex is a three-day event between horse and rider: dressage, cross-country and stadium jumping. I have been attending the event since it came to Kentucky in the early 80's and have realized most out-of-towers' or newbie's do not understand the rules and terminology of the event. Let me shed some light on these.

Kentucky Rolex: Part 1

Saturday, April 24, 2010

No, I'm not taking the weekend off again, mother nature must be having a hot flash though. The wind is blowing, lightening flashing and when it does rain it pours; something set her off. I won't be able to share with you everything I have learned today because of Ms. Natures affect on my power right now. But I will give you a glimpse of where I was today.

Tomorrow, after the storms I will share all that I have been enlightened with today, so come back and hear the tails of what you can really learn while at a horse event.

Easter Bunny: Just One of Many Talents

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Today I made my usual, routine trip to the unemployment office and while there I found myself daydreaming. Daydreaming to the point I almost missed them calling my name. I had been daydreaming of jobs long since gone, jobs I really enjoyed while they lasted. Jobs I held before I grew up and life got so complicated, jobs that when I did hear my name had left a smile on my face. If you would be so kind I would like to take you on my trip down memory lane.

The first job I ever had was at a local pizza parlor helping to prepare pizzas. This was where I learned the valuable lesson of nothing is really ever free. Here I witnessed two mooching kids get offered the free pizza they so often asked for only if they could chew and not swallow an anchovy until told to swallow. Neither could and neither got their free pizza. But at least they made it outside before they lost their cookies.

St. Patrick Day: Road Trip Memories

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

I will start by extending my lucky cyber four leaf clover to you through this post and hope all your green wishes come true today. In realizing that it is St. Patrick’s Day, it caused my mind to wonder and recall a road trip I once took with several co-workers to Chicago for the traditional dying of the river green. That trip provided me with some sound travel experience and I would like to pass along the valuable lessons I learned.

First: diversify your group. Traveling in a van with 4 gay men and a proper British woman can be quite entertaining. They had nothing at all in common but home decor and clothing; so needless to say listening to the conversations they had while I drove was both educational and comical.  Shall I just say that the definition of Queen had two entirely different meanings?

Road Rage: I Say Highway Commando Training

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Does anyone remember “Road Rage?” Well, yesterday I took a small road trip that on my way home got me to remembering this lost topic. It always amazes me that people think a steering wheel, four pieces of rubber and a ton of fiberglass gives them the right to become highway commandos.

I know you have experienced or even witnessed, maybe you even are one of these highway commandos, the ones the police never seem to see and you know have never read the driving manual. The drivers that perform such maneuvers that make the rest of us suddenly suck our bucket seat up into our rear end and in the same reaction completely deplete the oxygen from the car interior in one giant suck effect. Monday, I soon learned, must be highway commando training day.

Lunch With The Ladies

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Today I took a break from my daily drudge of domestic duties, writing, entertaining my furry friends and accepted an invitation to have lunch with Mother and Grandmother. Besides getting me out of the house, my mother was kind enough to pay for my lunch and though I did not realize it at the time I would later determine it had been very entertaining.

It amazes me that no matter how hard we try or how hard we fight the genetic makeup we each possess; we all become our parents. This is not, as I imagined earlier in life, a curse but rather a chance to look in mirror we seldom realize is there.

Pets Need To Party Also

Monday, March 8, 2010

As you can see in the right column of my home page, I have three furry friends that live with me. Due to an uncontrollable family situation at the present time it has been just them and me running the house and we have managed admirably. We putter through our daily activities, me tending to my daily chores and them faithfully following to see what new adventure we might be embarking upon. There never is one, but they keep hoping.

Yesterday was the exception to the rule. I do not know if it was my fault for not seeing the need for adventure or my furry friends just needing to express them selves. Either way, they took matters into their own paws.
