One World and Two Wandering Souls

Saturday, July 24, 2010

Silently sitting on a sandy beach, somewhere just out of the waters reach a girl is lost in thought. The sun just popped up its head filling the sky with glorious color. Not noticing this array she stares blindly at the waves softly lapping the shore and wonders, “Where have you been all night?”

The lapping water creates a foamy footprint and deposits small trinkets in homage to its visit but the girl remains in thought. She imagines all the wondrous stories that water could tell. Stories of all the places it had been, of all the creatures it contains. Still she had to wonder, “How does it find its way back to this sandy place called home?”

She thought about her life and how far from home she had gone. It wasn’t that it was a bad life; it was just a life. She had made her way to where she needed to be and along the way left her own little tokens. Not in distance but in heart, her life had traveled much to far from home. “I need to go home,” she thought and rising from her sandy perch she stood there looking, hoping to see her way home.

The sun has risen further in the sky and spilled its light far beyond the sandy shores. By now it was casting shadows on the bustle of a city. The city is a place where the sound of surf lapping the shore is replaced by the sound of zooming passing cars.

As the cars pass by, speeding to their destinations, they pay no mind to the rising sun. They do not notice the shadows it does cast. But it is in those shadows that the sun can find another wandering soul.

Sitting patiently on a bench, feeling the solitude of the day, she had nowhere in particular to be. She barely noticed the cars as they buzzed right on by, she blankly choose to stare at the remnants left along the curb. Staring at the curb clutter she too began to wonder, “Who left you here all night, this is not your home?”

”Home,” she thought; “How did I get so far from home?” She recalled the path she had taken to make her way in life, how blessed she had been. But she realized now that in her quest to complete her journey she had ventured much to far from home. “I need to go home,” she thought. Standing, lifting her arm to hail a cab she too, hoped it knew her way back home.

No matter your journey, the joy or despair you may feel, there is always someone feeling the exact same thing. There is always another wandering soul in the world just trying to find their way back home. Someone just trying to feel the serenity one finds in that place called home.

Tonight when the sun goes down think of these two lost souls and their new quest to get back home. Be grateful if you are there, feel blessed if you know the way, but should you find one of these wandering souls….

Open your heart and welcome them back home. For this one world is all we have for any of us to call home.

Thanks to Tossing it Out for the thought process.

A wonderful read Jules, since my husband died I haven't really settled,Oh don't get me wrong I like it enough where I am but I at times feel like a lost soul, I want for nothing as I enjoy the simple things in life, I have a good family and grandchildren yet I feel "Homeless" I am not unhappy just alone.

I was reading this and so getting in to what you were saying here. I was feeling it for sure--thinking about being so far from what I think of as home and being part of what my offspring think of as home. It was hitting me that you and I were thinking similar types of thoughts. And then I see the link to my site and the thanks. Wow! So cool!

I was glad to be of service in any thought process. But even better, it was inspiring to read how you turned your thoughts into such a beautifully rendered piece of writing--I truly enjoyed the images and the ideas.

Yvonne as long as you have power or a battery you are not alone, we are all here for you.

Lee, what a truly heart felt compliment, thank you. When I read your post this was "Just my imagination....running away with me." This is what played in my head.

Anonymous, REVEAL yourself! You sound like my mom.
