Reflections…

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

At the completion of a situation in your life have you ever looked back and asked, “What really did I learn from this?” After working for the past month it put me back in touch and now that it over, I had to look back.

I had to ask myself, “What really should I be taking from this? Is there a lesson to be learned here?” While I have been waiting all morning for the storms to stop and the internet to come back, I did just that; reflected.

Did you know computers can get Alzheimer's? Apparently so, mine has been complaining about its memory for the last month. I gave it some post-it notes and told it to cope.

Did you know coffee stains on your wall can be considered modern art? It can if while trying to descend the stairs you are carrying a cup of coffee, a laptop, 2 phones, a roll of marked-up drawings and dodging 3 dogs racing for the one lone pillow in the basement.

I have forgotten how to schedule time properly. Working 14 hours a day you have to re-schedule something, I know this now. The dusty aliens are homesteaders and I need more forks.

I was taught not drink and run a PC. After 2 or 3 happy hour lovelies all the buttons look fun to push, which explains why my roof ended up in the heavens. Moral: data can be corrupted to drink with you, be careful.

Never, when you have been laid off, clean your office out. In your anger you will throw away all reminders of the position that was taken from you; thus no reference material.

If, like me, you get tunnel vision while working take note. White dots floating on the screen is not the energy saver kicking in. You must eat to chase away the dot fairies. Eat, before you are taken by them.

On a serious note, I learned or at least became painfully aware that no amount of money can replace what we share with our fellow humans and furry friends.

It is this interaction which allows us to chase away all our demons. Whether it is in reality or in cyber-world the interaction of sharing emotions is something our demons cannot fight. Just reach out and touch…

Heh, heh, heh. Remember all those times you laughed at my coffee mishaps? My turn!
I kept all my job stuff for several years. When I pitched it I got a cal the next day for a project. I turned it down and I feel good about that. Did you clean up your mess :)

I love the photo! I can just imagine my cat Nate sitting and envisioning himself as a powerful wolf. Although he might be insulted by that as he already views himself as a lion and the king of all beasts.

The coffee stains cracked me up. I never would have made it down those stairs without falling right on my rear end.

Peace to you as well. *hugs*

Yes! Fellow humans and furry friends! When I was laid off, I don't know what I'd do without my dog, Ike, or my friends. It's a tough time and non-judgmental support is necessary. And at least our cyber friends offer something too, something very tangible – a connection.

I'm so happy that your workload has lightened, thus you have been blessed to enter the world of the living again. :) (Does the cyber world count as the world of the living? :o) LOL :D

I used to have 14h days for years! By now I can not imagine working such hours anymore. I do however know that a set structure is important to keep in tune and not losing ones mind! What helps me very much though is 4h volunteering at the library. Keeps my mind more active, in touch with people and is good for the resume to. Whether I ever will need or not! Love ya.

All points mentioned taken. White dots eat. Very important. Interaction and reaching out most important. Wishing you a wonderful Thursday.

It's great to see you back blogging with us. I'll be going sporadic as I have a story due September 1. I am nervous as heck, too.

Post-it notes. LOL.

14 hours a day is a long day!

Thank you for coming by my blog and commenting in among all the fray. Case in point, it really is the connections you have that make a difference. :)

Wish I had had a pod-mate like you at my last "consulting" gig. It was supposed to be 6 month deal. It turned into 18 looong months. It would have been a lot more fun if you'd been there to remind me of all the impromptu art around my desk.

Alas, the only thing I took away from that job was that I'd never want to do it again! ;)

I *love* that picture. It reminds me that we see ourselves differently than the way others do. I find it inspiring.

And my best friend is good at looking over a rough situation, then asking, "What is my take-away?" I try to ask myself this of late. There is always something to learn from.
