Nightmare"s: Fact or Fiction?

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Warning: this is a personal dump.

Last night I awoke at 1 in the morning, sweating and shaking from terror, a nightmare. I had suffered from one of those dreams so real the lines of reality were but a blur. Ever have one of those dreams?

My dream was like the time and space continuum seem to have melted into one warped image (think Dali’s “Melting Clocks). The exact content of my dream will not be divulged but note it was a nightmare, an image only I can see and feel. What was the exact point to this dream?

If you have ever done research on dreams and I have, you will find rarely does it mean anything close to the image your mind projects. Is that fact comforting, not really. For me dreams are where the mind has full reign; that place in our psyche no mortal prejudice or slant can touch but nightmares?

Nightmares can take on many forms. There are the humorous ones that once we wake we realize; no way are our pets going to suddenly have a vocabulary and demand we wear collars and get flea dipped twice a year.

You have those that the moment you awake you know exactly why you had them. Dreaming o ridingf a burro, fleeing bandito’s is a sure sign you ate one too many tacos. But alas this is not the sort of dream I had.

I fear my dream, my nightmare, is but a window to the future. Our mind, whether we like it or not, does try it’s best to keep us safe. It works to buffer us from what surly will be a devastating blow. Do we listen, do we take note; well, that depends?

For me, I’m not ready for that window to be open. I do not want to see the future and I don’t care what my mind thinks it is trying to do, I will never be prepared for that dream of reality.

I leave you this mid-week at 6 in the morning preparing myself a Bloody Mary. My psyche needs a drink to steady its nerves. Cheers!

Happy hump day!

Rainbow Peace…

So sorry you were awakened from a nightmare, Jules. I have them every once in a while. I dream vividly and, at the risk of putting it all out there...I have had psychic dreams. It could take years for a dream to become reality, but it has happened to me several times over my life. I like to think it's just God telling me I'm on the right path. ☺ Fortunately, I've never had a nightmare become reality.

Boy, is it wrong to think that Bloody Mary looks so good this AM? ☺ Happy Wednesday!

Nighmares are so very real and leave you with the lingering uneasiness for a long time after you wake.

Sweet dreams tonight.

Nightmares are the reasons I take sleeping pills- if not they keep coming and I wont sleep. My nightmares are past related usually- but thats a whole nother story not for comments.

I hope the nightmare soon fades and you are able to sleep better the rest of the week Jules.

I hate having a nightmare aand still have most of the night to go through, frightened of going to sleep incase the dream reoccurs or getting up and read a book then feel tired out in the morning because of lack of sleep. Nightmares are not to be reccomended in any one's book.
Hope you sleep better tonight Jules.

I've recently come to learn that the nightmares you have while you're awake are the worst kind. I'd rather they stay in my dreams.

Sorry about your nightmare! I always dream about someone breaking in, and since that is a real concern of mine, I think that's what it means.
Burglars should be worried - I do own real Ninja swords and I'm not afraid to use them.

I'm so sorry you had such a terrible dream, and such a stressful night. In the past I had a recurrent night terror that seemed so real, I had all the physical symptoms of genuine terror, and I had a terrible time waking up. I know how difficult it is to have such a frightening dream.

I hope you will have a peaceful and restful sleep tonight. Take care!

That Bloody Mary looks great. I'd like to have one or two right now.

I am a huge fan of dreams and they often inspire my writing. I rarely have nightmares that terrify me or make me feel tremedously uneasy, but I do have bad or scary dreams sometimes. I tend to "watch" them as though they were a movie and though I may feel fear or sadness or some other negative emotion, I usually see them as a story and try to create a good ending either while awake or when I go back to sleep. My dreams are messages from my mind and I try to understand them as best I can.

Anonymoussaid,

I pay attention to my dreams far more than I used to. They seem to unlock pains from the past and sometimes reveal or warn of events yet to come. I welcome and sometimes fear them. And love the Dali image! I'm a big fan.

Oh yes, I have nightmares like the one you had (sorry about yours). The last one I had I was about to be 'tortured' and my alarm woke me up. Thank goodness!!! I have No idea why I was having a dream like that.. but decided to lock my apartment windows (I live on the bottom level). It was the only 'protection' I could think of that the dream may have had some meaning or prediction too. However, It was probably just a dream on not trusting too much. Who knows, but I sure could have used a bloody mary for breakfast too that morning.

Sure hope you got a good nights sleep last night!!! I did after not sleeping at all the night before. :-/

Today is a new and 'brighter' day.. I hope for us both, Jules! :-)

I used to be fascinated by the meaning of dreams. I've had the same nightmare since I was a teen - I'm dialing someone's number, for some reason I can't remember all the numbers, and panicing because how will I ever get in touch with this person again?

Dreams make me wonder what on earth is really going on in my head. Okay, so no one knows for sure. Poor hubby has been trying to figure me out awake, let alone asleep and dreaming.

Happy weekend! Get some ice cream for yourself, okay? :)
