Dog Days of Summer

Friday, August 5, 2011

The sun went down, the weariness of the day sat in and my girls took pity. Just like children, animals have their moments when their soul is all you see. Moments when you just know exactly what they are thinking. Either that or I was more exhausted than I thought I was.

We sat in the living room, as we usually do on any given evening and I broke out the laptop. This is when their souls begin to chirp. As I looked up waiting for the screen to boot I swear I heard them say, “Mom, can we talk?”

“Of course we can talk, what is on your mind?” I had to respond, didn’t I?

“We think a treat is order.” “A dog treat or a human treat?”

“A human treat, a special one;” this was coming from my oldest, not so mature one. The other two were lip-syncing because my second in line, who speaks like Eeyor, said “Not my treats.”

I was dreaming of human treats when the little one piped in, though she chose visuals for her addition to the conversation. She just drug an empty paper bag to my feet. “What is this Ms. Mouse? Are you trying to tell me I need a bag of treats?”

“No, isn’t this your suitcase? Can’t you take a hint Mom?” Mouse gets a bit testy if you do not understand her every move.

With a lull in the conversation my Eeyore baby merely said, “House sitter.”

I took their hint, packed my paper bag and called the house sitter, can you say, “Road Trip.” I will be embarking on a road trip in a few short hours. Though I must admit I’m a bit worried. When your children are extremely happy for the babysitter to arrive, doesn’t it make you worry?

I’m leaving with visions of a doggie toga party flashing in my brain.

I may be a bit (I shudder to say) MIA this weekend but don’t you think I deserve what may be my first and last road trip of the year?

Have a great weekend.

You know, that is so perfect it could have been the entire blog post. Jealous, wish I had written it.
Safe trip, have a great time.

I like the way your site looks now. Very tasteful. Have a great trip. I'll be going to Tennessee in a couple of weeks--not a road trip unless highways in the sky are included in this classification.

Hope your weekend is going excellently? You deserve it!

You know, I’ve already started having those kinds of conversations with my little dog. She’s a right whinger too, and I suspect, always will be.

Yes, but you'd worry more if they didn't like their sitter! So just warn those adorable little souls to make good choices, and then go off and have a great time. Which usually means don't always take your own advice. Make some fun choices too. ;)

Cute, cute, cute!! Hope you are having a wonderful Road Trip! You so deserve a wonderful break

Your dogs are too funny! My sweet Ms. Pickles, the one kidnapped to Houston by my oldest son :-) had a sitter last weekend who brought her dog with. My son told me yesterday that she is Not happy that the sitter left and with her new friend and playmate. I loved it! LOL

Enjoy your well-deserved road trip. The sitter will clean up after the toga party and you can pretend it never happened.

Anonymoussaid,

I'm late reading this post, so I'm hoping you had a wonderful trip! I've had a lot of road trips over the years with my disabled daughter and now we're beached, but with a lot of great memories. I hope you came back with a lot of wonderful memories, too!
