I Want… What Do You Want?

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

What do you want? Is it riches, health or possibly peace of mind? Want is a word we throw around like need. Are we ever sure of what we really want or need?

We all spend our lives wanting things and thinking we truly need them. We listen to that bad devil and then wonder “why did I want…?” This morning I thought about my wanting thoughts and came to this conclusion.

I want negative people to be fitted for a giggle corset. (My invention) That way all we see is a “get this off” wiggle dance accompanied by the sound of giggles.

I want everyone to ride in a wheel chair for a day. Yea, show me your off-the-curb wheelie, dare you.

I want all high heels to be equipped with “Bounce off the ground springs.” That way women who insist on clacking their heels annoyingly will not require training.

I want a gum people cannot pop.

I want it to be a high school graduation requirement that you work a semester in either a nursing home or an emergency room. Sort of a “welcome to your life has consequences” course.

I want an app that recognizes spam and sends a minimum of 30 “Shame on you” replies.

I want an identity crisis. I don’t like my current choices.

I want all my loyal followers who have shared their lives, problems and deepest secrets with me to know, it is not a switch. You know who you are so know I cannot turn off the concern and compassion, I worry about you and you never leave my thoughts.

I want to to stop seeing red and green on my TV. Again, as with my southern neighbors we are under a tornado warning. I will not be checking my spelling, grammar or for missed words. Get over it I have to go to the basement.

Peace…

I pray the tornado decided to visit other homes than yours! I like your phrase "giggle corset."

I want to want what I have not what I don't. LOL.

May your luck and times grow ever better, Roland.

Our wants seem so trivial sometimes when we consider how much others need.

Anonymoussaid,

I want a popless gum too ... I hate to hear people popping their gum. Sounds horrible. And stay safe from those mean ol' tornadoes!

Be safe sweetie. I think my biggest want is security. But this is a silly post so in that vain I will say a 'dimmer switch.' So that when life comes at me hard I can dim the response or ignore it without consequence. I want one for you too.

I have an announcement for my W post today. If you have time come by.

I saw the forecast on the news this morning. I hope your time in the basement comes to end sooner rather than later.

Love your new invention...the giggle corset. I know a number of people who I would like to see in one.

Stay safe and dry. Take care.

Ugh! I hope the tornado weather stops soon. In addition to being tiresome (like the weather that cried wolf), it's riddled me with migraines. hmph.

Btw, I'm one of those clanking women. I love me some solid high heels. I will endure all the blisters that accompany them with a smile on my face. I could handle some quieter heels, too, but I don't own any right now :/

Cheers to your other ideas. And a right-back-at-ya on the concern and passion.

Oh, the 'heel clickers'. These are the people who nearly mow me down with their carts every time I go to Target because their time is sooooooo much more important than mine...I hear you there.

Ditto- the idea of everyone having to see the world for one day from a wheelchair. I would also humbly add that I'd like everyone to try doing it without their sight. Terror takes on a new dimension when you suddenly find yourself unable to see where you're going and what you're touching...in a public restroom.

What I want for you: Peace, happiness, and abundance in all good things beyond your wildest dreams.

What I want for me- or perhaps, what I need...for the first time in my life for what I want to actually matter. The past three months is the first time in my life I've ever even allowed myself to breathe the question to myself- and when I did I found the answers were right there. Now, the trick is making it all happen.

Wonderful post, Jules. You're a treasure.

You're right. We do often use "want" and "need" as if they are interchangeable, and they aren't.
Your post reminded me of this verbal exchange in the movie "Bruce Almighty":

Bruce: There were so many. I just gave them all what they want.

God: Yeah. But since when does anyone have a clue about what they want?

Anonymoussaid,

I hope as you are reading this, that you are safe and sound. I can't imagine what it must be like to live under such environmental duress.
I want to be happy with all the thinsg I already have. Oh, and that gum that you suggested. I want that for everyone.
Take care. - G

Oh how I wish we had a basement. We had quarter size hail last night and had to file a claim on hubby's truck for hail damage.

And now we're under yet ANOTHER tornado watch. Parts of town and in the county are shut down, roads closed because they're under water.

Stay safe.

Great post. There are so many things that I think I want, it's hard to tell which one is the one I really want to go for. So, I often do nothing when I should be doing something. Good topic for today.

There have been weather warnings here, too. There's so much water flooding the area they closed the schools today--but there haven't been any tornadoes, thank goodness.

Stay safe!

I've spent a day in a wheel chair before. My grandmother left one behind after she died. It was stored in my grandfather's basement. Every time we'd visit, we'd race it down in the basement.

As I read this I realized what I really wanted is for some people to stop getting their Drivers License from a Cracker Jack box. Also it should be mandatory for everyone to take drivers ed and defensive driving classes. Finally I want them to install turn signals on grocery carts. LOL. I have an award for you. It will be on my blog tomorrow. =)

P.S. I am working on the button thing!

What you want does not sound at all unreasonable. My mother was telling about all the television warnings they were getting in East Tennessee. She couldn't even watch American Idol in peace.

I want a lot of things. Although, nothing nearly as creative as your list. I want heels to actually be comfortable and not make the clicking noise when women wear them. I also want my brother to chew chips with his mouth closed. And, most importantly, I also want my own identity crisis. Right now, it just doesn't seem all that fun.
