Which Eye is Your Dominate?

Monday, March 21, 2011

With one eye closed life has a directional point of view, regardless of whether that direction is left or right. Shut one eye and experience it. Ah, caught you, stop squinting. Weird isn’t it?

The entire weekend I have seen things from this vantage point, a directional view. My brain registers what seems to it only half the picture. So which eye is your dominate eye?

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons firearms instructor I am right eye dominate. My true sight comes from this eye, the one my brain will listen to and allow it to believe what it sees. Why do I tell you this?

I am without my true sight, seeing only what my left eye, the not-so dominate eye submits to the brain. You would think your brain would realize this and allow for non-so dominate to provide input but NO! It has to question said input.

Not-so dominate: The glass is there, but closer than you think; pick it up.
Brain: Do not recognize input. Extremity, explore options, quickly.

My right arm flew out on its own, further and faster than it should and coffee went all over the dog lying at my feet. Does coffee equate to beer on a dogs coat?

Not-so dominate: Something in the floor, step right.
Brain: Do not recognize input. Ignore warning.

My fickle brain ignored it. Stubbed my right toe, lost my balance and slammed my right shoulder into the wall. Great, two more dogs with coffee coated fur. Are you sure it is not the same as beer on hair?

Not-so Dominate: HEY, the burner light is on! (Not-so dominate by now is screaming)
Brain: Do not recognize input, it is a trap.

No the coffee cup is empty now but, the watusi is coming back. My right hand hit the lite burner, my left hand flung the bacon I was preparing and my legs did an “I told you so” dance. The coffee coated dogs did a “she has lost her mind” shuffle and went straight to the bacon stuck to the wall across the room.

So goes it when you have a directional point of view, especially when it is the not-so dominate point of view.

Yes, my allergies have come to visit a month early and my right eye has swollen shut. I will do my best to get to your posts this morning but will be reading in small doses.

To those offering best wishes and free medical advice, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I eat local honey every day and over the counter drugs have yet to ease the condition. Let us just call this my mushroom period, cool and dark.

Start the week please with both eyes open!

Peace…

Sorry about your allergies, due to medication many years ago I can't see properly from the side, there is a name for it but I can't spell
it. I can only see what is straight infront of me. I have got used to it now but was uncomfortable at the onset.

Interesting post and subject Jules.

Take care.

Oh no! That sucks. Gosh, what kind of allergies do you have that your eye swells shut? That's awful.

So, yeah, I never thought about how one eye is so much more dominant than the other. I wonder which is my dominant eye. Is it connected with which hand is dominant?

Wow, look at me, being the dork, asking too many question. *head-smack* At least you can take a tough situation and poke fun at it. I love that your legs did an "I told you so" dance :)

Good luck, Jules! Hope you can see again soon.

Anonymoussaid,

I feel your pain Jules. Only those with allergies realize just how much they truly suck! :-) I hope they calm down soon.

as for "coffee covered dogs" this reminds me...

When my grandson Jackson first started taking taikwondo (???) class, he would practice diligently from home. His instructor was Korean and had a strong accent. There warm up was a series of moves the coincided with verbal commands. One of Jackson's commands (according to Jackson) was "Coffee Dogs" ... Whats Coffee Dogs? I asked. It's a Korean word for strong, said Jackson. Later, after attending Jackson's first level completion ceremony, I listened to his instructor and realized what he was saying was NOT "coffee dogs" it was "confidence" :) to this day... I love saying "coffee dogs"

feel well dear friend! MonkeyME

Its really brave of you to churn out a witty post out of your problem. Take care, and get well soon.

I consider myself lucky to not really have to deal with any kind of allergy issues. But I know what it feels like not to see well. :) I can't see anything but colors and outlines with my glasses off. So My thoughts are with you for braving the kitchen with only one eye for input! I hope it gets better.

Man, that just stinks. My dad has been to numerous doctors the past month trying to find one that will give him allergy shots and he's been told "we just don't do that any more". He is miserable too.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have to admit, you are a mess! but I mean that as a term of endearment!
I actually think I am right eye dominate as well as Left ear dominate...don't ask me how I know, I just do!
Now, for that all important game coming up tonight? You know the women's game of Kentucky Wildcats vs. The CArolina Tar Heels?
Do I need to ask who you are rooting for?

...I didnt' think so...

Sorry about your eye. Mine have been watering and itching like crazy. Sigh....ain't spring grand?

And you know I got to find out which eye is dominant, right?

I hope it clears up for you, in all kinds of ways :)

Oh my goodness, you poor thing! So sad that you are not better yet and the season has just begun. Every summer since I moved to Iowa 6 years ago has gotten worst. I perfer to think it's Iowas fault, but the truth probably has more to do with my 'age' and that I'm outdoors much more than I used to be. I sure hope you get 'both' eyes back very soon, Jules!!
Your week sounds like one I could easily have if my 'left' eye where/has been before, swollen shut. I did that 'test' and yes, I need my left eye to the most. I'm also left handed, does that have anything to do with it? Just curious. :-)
P.S. I loved that comment that 'Petco' sells raincoats for dogs. I want to see a picture of your southern 'huntin' dogs in raincoats! & with a shoot gun and a frying pan in the picture too. That would be a hoot!! lol

Well, you take care of yourself, Jules!! Praying for both of your eyes to get better soon!!
Hugs,

Hope both of yours are open soon - 'tis the season. I'm feeling it, too. I've no remedy other than to pop Zyrtec. It helps a bit.
Relax, take care of yourself. :)

Another allergy victim. Who would've guessed.

Is it better for a dog to be coffee covered or chocolate covered? I know chocolate is very bad for them on the inside.

Anonymoussaid,

My center eye is most dominant. but makes for aiming a gun harder. I have to hold the butt of the rifle up to my nose to center the target in the sites, but the kickback can be most painful.

I feel your pain. My hubby gets allergies so bad this time of year... and we just went camping so he was all drugged up just to be able to sit outside. Just crazy.

But Crazy as it sounds, my eyes are both pretty equal in direction dominance. :)
