What Day is it?

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Do you ever have days when you hear that little voice say, “Oh let’s just play hooky today!” To which your other little voice replies, “No you don’t; you have this, this and this to do.” Why do we never listen to that first voice?

I have been trying to work myself out of a funk by setting small goals. Very small achievable tasks that will allow me to feel like I’ve made baby steps but do you know what I figured out? I have figured out why babies cling to crawling.

I tried to clean the house, the first baby step on my list. I so want to be in maintenance mode. I mapped out a plan, gathered all the proper tools and supplies from the closet and I set out on my mission.

I am back to crawling because I forgot why I was carrying all that stuff, got side-tracked and spent 2 hours fixing the DVD player that had not worked in a year. (Not even on the list)

I tried to stand up to my ghost. Second baby step, leave the television alone. Seems my ghost wants to turn it on in the middle of the night. My mother told me I had to put Jesus’s name in my order of it being off limits.

I am back to crawling because apparently Jesus thinks my television is the devils creation and wants nothing to do with it.

I decided to move on, work in the yard. I cannot beat these allergies might as well party with them.

I tried to rake up winter, my third baby step. The girls and I headed out with rake and leaf bags in hand. They went off exploring the fence line; I went to work on the piles of pine needles.

My brain could not comprehend what the bag and hands were supposed to do and I became frustrated rather quickly. “Take a break, look up and breath; what the… hey stop that”

I am back to crawling because the coffee on the dogs attracted spring ants.

”Forget it, just sit down and relax; listen to that first voice you heard this morning,” was all I could think to myself. But no, the phone had to ring.

I am back to crawling because, as you read this I am in a doctor’s office with that same friend I went on vacation with. You know; the one I suggested we feed salt water taffy to.

I will be around as soon as I get home.

Peace ….

You have my sympathy. Some days it just seems as though it would be best to stay in bed and pull the covers over one's head.

Oh Jules, I so have those days too!! I read a book recently that said to make a list of 5 things to do every day and that you 'can't' skip any. Yea right?! Threw the list away and gave the book to the library for another personality type to read & follow. Haha...

Praying you feel better with Everything very, very soon!!!!

Jules- Yikes, I hope everything is okay. Sometimes getting stuff done is just not on the list of what we need to do.

You sound like me in the way you work. I always end up getting sidetracked it seems. We need to each start making to do lists based on a time schedule and then invest in one of those timers that will ring when the time is up to go on to the next thing. I keep meaning to do this, but I guess making a list and buying the timer should be the first things on my list--if I ever got around to making that list. If only I had more time.

Made me laugh again! You're neighbor may have a remote control that runs on the same frequency as your T.V. or there may be a short in the T.V. I'm sure your ghost will appreciate it when you stop blaming him. Although, if he were in my house, I'd tell him to get lost.

Right now I have to get off the internet and look up some more financial junk to give to Bank of America. I hate those guys. It's every month something new.

I also believe in baby steps, and in tackling baby steps, I tackle one per day. Do the best I can, don't beat myself up, and move on.

I hope your friend's okay...

PS--Is that the coffee from Monday's post on your dogs?

My mantra for the past year has been "tomorrow will be better, tomorrow will be better..."

Still waiting *laugh* But it will be better tomorrow. Or maybe I spent too long singing showtunes from Annie as a child...

I have had that day, three days in a row. This morning my voice said, go back to bed and I did. All day felt like a worn out dish rag. Got up and attempted a routine, guilt arrived. I told it to Shut up! I felt a bit better~ I think I have a cold n' allergies...is that possible?!
Hope you feel better xXx

It's rarely that you may want to achieve something according to a plan. And if you do that and get successful every time you are bound to be a person full of principles and the rule breaker types :P
But yes there is no harm in trying for sure.

I have times like that, like deciding the day before an important exam that rather than study I absolutely must give all my dogs a haircut - couldn't possibly wait one more day.

But sometimes we SHOULD listen to the voice. I also enjoyed the company of strangers in the doctors office today... running's overrated anyway *gets down to crawl*

To stay organized, (aka get anything done) I have to write a list. If I don't do something on it, that item goes to the following day. Why do I have so much to do on Fridays?!!! Ugh. I hope you feel better. Play hooky!

Cleaning the house is an all day event for me because I get distracted like that. I find dishes in one room so I take them to the kitchen and wash them. Putting something else away finds me suddenly organizing that drawer...ugh.

Which reminds me I totally need to plan hookie day with the kids!

I do the same thing - get distracted by things that aren't even on the list! The trick is, though, to add them to the list and then you can cross them off the list...lol

Hope you are feeling better! :)

Gosh Jules, I'm so sorry about your day! I really hope tomorrow makes up for it in spades! I have a knee that is hurting tonight, from over-doing it (I think I increased my running mileage too quickly). I suppose we all go through the "OVER-DO."

PS My inner voice is telling me to get to bed right away and get plenty of rest tomorrow. Thanks to this post... I think I'll listen. ;) I really hope you get a day of rest and recovery, too!!!

Hugs,
Corine :D

I can relate to how you feel. In the winter months, I find myself extremely disoriented, and beat myself up over it. I get distracted far too easily and before I know it, the day is over and I'm no better off. It's an extremely vicious cycle, and there has to be a better way! But every once in awhile I have a day where I feel inspired and it reminds me to keep on fighting!
