Why Do, Did You, Have You…

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

I have been up since 4:30am catching up on some of the sad news being presented today. Occasionally I bite the bullet and endure the madness; it doesn’t take but a small dose to fill my cup. What about you small dose or fill ‘er up?

This morning I noticed several issues that well, just struck me as odd. As in what ever happen to common sense? Just a few of the oddities I noticed, what do you think?

Why can our paper monies have the saying “In God we Trust” and yet our courts not be allowed to display the Ten Commandments? I don’t know about you but I would rather have God with me in court than in the bank.

Why do we need a study to determine the effects cell phones have on the brain? Most of us already know the answer, it makes us stupid. Yes we drive and talk. We slow down to a snail pace and expect everyone around us to realize we are on the phone, go around, but wait I need to turn left. What I want to know is what term you use for that arm being frozen in that position? No they are not waving at you; they are trying to figure out how to pick the cell phone back up.

Did you know Kentucky is full of pill popping addicts? Our drug problem has gotten so bad that Florida now outlaws the sale of drugs to us. It has nothing to do with the fact they are trying to make the entire state quit smoking at the same time. I’d stay away for a while if I were you. One way or another the state is going to be experiencing withdraws.

Have you seen the pictures of the sharks gathering along the US coast again this year? These creatures are not stupid. They realize we have been cooped up all winter and are heading for warmth. This reminds me of the crocodile lying in wait for the wildebeest. Remember Nemo, “Sharks don’t eat fish.”

Last I wish to extend my sympathies and prayers to our New Zealand friends. Such a tragedy and I know all our thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. Take a moment for them.

Sad little post here but I’m sleep deprived. Being sleep deprived I should include this disclaimer; No malice was intended in this post. You respectfully have the right to disagree, why you can even include me in your oddity list if you like.

Hump day, half way there.

Peace…

I take in my news in small doses too. Prayers to those in New Zealand and I hope those Wisconsin teachers can work things out.

Like you and Alex, I HAVE to take my news in small doses and most days I ignore it completely. Not saying it's right, but when watching, I mostly just think "wow".

Sent some prayers up for New Zealand this morning!

Hope you manage to catch up with your sleep, Jules :)

Jules, I couldn't agree with you more; especially about the cell phone study...really? we are wasting billions yet unable to afford food for many and education for all!
But don't even get me started on education...it's a mess! Thank God I am nearing my end of teaching because the way things are going, I wouldn't stay if I was a teacher just starting out.
I too have to take the news in small doses an sometimes just can't listen...it is heartbreaking! As is the catastropihic happenings in New Zealand, Egypt, etc...
I hope you got some sleep...deprived motivated, these are still great thoughts!

I seldom watch the news if I'm up in the night/early morning. Too depressing at that hour. Which is why I watch infomercials. So loud! So cheery! Everything solved if you just buy this handydandy device! Not available in stores!
Re: cell phones...i suppose you heard that the new ones have chips in them so you can use them to buy, buy, buy more stuff! just wave it in front the item! Does that mean you can accidentally "butt-buy" a car or a trip to Europe like you can "butt-dial" someone?

Lots of sadness out there, but I try to keep abreast of events because if I don't, I feel disconnected. I am in awe of what is going on in the Middle East. I love it that people are finding the courage to take back their countries and I pray for them. Been sending lots of prayers to NZ as well. So horrible.

Anonymoussaid,

Maybe it's pathetic of me, but I get my news from Yahoo as my main page. I read the headlines and that's about it. I loathe the evening news the most (national, not local). They will beat a story to death and I end up just feeling hopeless after watching it.

Sad news, it isn't just cell phones that make people stupid, I have another theory~Will share in Hart's Ideas of March blogfest~

I am sleep deprived, too...nothing is shaking the cemented feeling of I want to lie like a cinder block n' chill.

I, too feel bad for New Zealand, everyday it is something~

Even when you are sleep deprived you can write witty posts. And true, we would always want God on our side more in a court than in a bank, though if He can be in both places, it would be an icing on the cake.

And may they leave the sharks in peace, and in single piece.

Cheers,

I loved this post. I feel you are correct on a good number of points in here.

Being American, I see society falling rapidly as well. When the odds of you being elected into office is how much money your campaign has raised, we are in trouble. I want to move to Canada, they have their stuff together, at least more that we do.

Although I can see the usefulness of wanting God in the court room, I'm not sure I'd be so quick to give up God at the bank. I've had some pretty close calls where I've prayed a deposit would come in before a check bounced :)
Great post! You make some great points!

After getting worked up about that judge who ruined kids lives & that heartbroken mother was interviewed on CNN ~ my youngest son told me that I was Not allowed to watch stories like that anymore. He said he can literally see my blood pressure so up!!! Hummm... I'm sure he can. :-(

Hang in there, Jules!!! Love ya friend!! Hugs ~ Coreen xoxoxo

Anonymoussaid,

Good insight about having God with you in court. Of course, there is no law about lawyers bringing the devil in with them.

And when driving through Kentucky, make sure you have a full tank of gas so you can drive straight through without stopping!

I usually avoid the news. It always seems something terrible is always happening. Just the other night I was watching the news and saw that a family of five were killed in a car accident on a street that I drive often. It was a real reality check for me. You have to always drive defensively. My prayers are with those in New Zealand.

Definitely sad about NZ!!

GREAT minds, indeed... ANNOYED by stupid drivers that risk the lives of everyone around them and think nothing of it. Grr...

Maybe a bit similar elsewhere, too... Lack of sleep anyway... Sick AGAIN, to boot... I'll be gone for a week and a half and will probably not have much internet access... A few preposts set up, though. (((HUGS))) and send them on to the others!

I don't get anything depressing from your post -- you sound more incredulous. If things didn't shock us, we'd be dead.
