When Life Gives You Lemons?

Friday, December 3, 2010

I really wish I was able to plan posts like the rest of you it sure would come in handy right now. I get up every morning and compose these posts you read, everything done in about an hour. Well, guess what?

Yesterday about 4pm life decided I needed another test or maybe a pop quiz. I have a programmable thermostat, you know save the bucks, cooler during the day and then warm by late afternoon, this was my first question.

When I saw ice crystals forming on my glasses I knew something was wrong. My furnace went on vacation. Calling the repair man, Ms. Twisters lovely brother in-law, I could expect heat sometime after 10pm. “okay, deal with it,” I thought.

I went to retrieve the space heater and plug it in. To do so I had to unplug the Bed-n-Bath air fresher my mom just bought me. This fell apart upon unplugging and refused to go back together. I did not make this up, the scent is winter. Great now I’m freezing but my hands smell great.

Now I was late for my hair cut, hurry. Driving, I kept telling myself, “brother in-laws are the bomb,” all the while trying to control my breathing. I arrived only to find Ms. Twister had re-scheduled her appointment but the stylist had rescheduled both of us, my hair cut is today. “Okay, back in the fridge.”

I returned home, turned on my lonely space heater, made a pot of hot coffee and sat down. Not for long. The cup stuck to my Monet coaster, coaster dropped and shattered all over the floor. Coffee was saved, a bright moment, yee-haw!

Then as I was throwing away the shards of Monet and I kid you not, the light just went out in the kitchen. It did not blow or dim; it just went out, Eerie! Standing on the table I replaced the bulb only to find the new bulb was longer than the old. Thank God for set screws that will tighten to the edge of a glass globe. Don’t ask if my light is crooked!

At 10pm my repaired man arrived. By 11:30pm I was searching the web for a wiring schematic. Do you know how hard it is to type when your hands are numb? By midnight we had a semblance of heat and the last time I saw the clock it said 2am.

My body clock went off at 5:30am as usual. 3 1/2 hours later, I sit here some what warmer but unable to comprehend any real thought that dare enter my head. I had planned to pass on awards but my brain cannot handle the amount of thought required to post those. Please forgive me. And the test/pop quiz?

Anger management. I think karma froze it right out of me. Today the parts for final repair will be picked up, I will have a wiring schematic and my hair will be cut.

When life threw me lemonade… I got cold and had to pee.

Peace

Anonymoussaid,

oh man! when it rains, it pours doesn't it? I've had those days before. I'd rather a bunch go wrong at once and get it over and done with for awhile :-) Ok, that's what I tell myself anyway.

I hope you're warm and toasty now!

I love that last line! Its a great punch line and would sound great at the end of a sevenling poem:
Let me see if AI can come up with it on the spot just for fun...

My rainbow pal Jules
heater went out, rescheduled
hair cut, and called repair

My rainbow pal Jules
Typed with numb fingers,
Froze til night, and managed anger

When life threw her lemonade...she had to pee.

Not a good time to lose your heat, but when one thing happens why shouldn't everything else. At least you wrote about it well.

It is so weird how that happens and it seems to be universal. I hope any invading aliens have these horrible days when they invade us. LOL.

I write my post in the evening. I usually don't really do a week or even days in advance.

Oh that is the WORST when the furnace breaks in the middle of winter, so sorry it happened to you. And yes what is it about having to pee when in the midst of stress?

Jules, you were definitely having a 'Murphy' day...when all could go wrong and it did! I think all you can do is laugh so you don't cry...

give yourself big hugs, make a cup of tea and curl up and do nothing that may cause trauma!

Hi Jules, I'm not a post planner either and my favorite posts by other people (you included) are about stuff life throws at us, whether it be good, bad or ugly.

There's nothing like commiserating with someone about life's vagaries.

Great post! that rebel, Olivia

Bless. Your. Heart. You're better than I am-I'd have been crying and stomping my feet!

I supposed the only thing I could have done would have been the same as you-plug in the heaters. We now have an electric blanket-I would drag the computer in there, as well as the kitties.

I really hope it's all back to normal and that your hair cut is awesome. Try to stay warm!

Wow, what a horrible day. I'm glad you have your heat back. I couldn't live without heat, I think I would move to my car. At least you see the humor in it. Have (I hope) a great weekend.

YOU are so funny, your humor is a great coping mechanism(I kind of go that way, too) I love how your hands smelled of Winter, why couldn't it be summer.

I do hate being cold, I am sorry for your pain~ I hope you are hot right now and enjoying coaster free iced tea or dare I say lemonade?! xXx
