200th and Another Award

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

I’ve passed another blog milestone. This is my 200th post! Can you see the fireworks from where you are? Look up, ahhh! Pretty, that one looked like Saturn; see it?

Don’t be alarmed; I can’t see them either. I wanted fireworks but our imaginations are all we have here. What is the proper blog way to celebrate 200 posts?

I do have one more award to pass along. That is a celebration, but let’s save that for last. Let me finish this 200th post first.

Allow me a 200-post transformation.

When I became unemployed I like so many of you started blogging. Write, read, click, make money; sounded good. HAHA!  Yes, I know heard it a thousand times. I was to be the exception right? Well, do you see anything that would resemble a dollar sign on my blog? (I’m slapping my knee laughing right now.)

Then came the “lets save the world,” part of my transformation. The Haiti earthquake comes to mind but of course I took my jabs at DC too. Why I even wrote letters to Oprah and Mr. Obama; of course they did not comment. I was a mad, loud mouth, white woman without a job, would you comment?

This is when I started to have personal memories return. I began to write about things I felt, things that meant something to me and could actually put into words. Then I wrote a post, not a very well written one but it got 7 comments. I could sense the transformation.

I read a lot of blogs in all shapes, sizes and genres; I was looking for a style. Then I asked myself, “Who are these 7 people and why do they care what I write?” I realized it was because I wrote, not because of some template or style, that they read and commented. The transformation was complete.

It took me 200 hundred posts but I now celebrate the fact that I am “Trying To Get Over The Rainbow.” No one else, it is just me. I have found my voice thanks to you. Through you, my wonderful followers, with all your lovely comments I found strength. You have allowed me to share my stories and applauded them at their end. That transformed into courage, courage I did not have before. In 200 posts I have found, My voice.

So now about that award?

Yvonne over at Welcome to my World of Poetry bestowed this on me last week. Oh that silly woman. Sorry it took me so long to catch up. I must say though, she is the kindest, most uplifting poet I know. Thank you again Yvonne.

So now I must pass it on to:
Karen @ Author Karen Walker A wonderful writer with many lessons to share.
Teresa @ Journaling Woman A very inspirational lady with a new grandson.
Glynis @ Author Blog: Glynis Smy Another lovely write and who is wee bit funny.

I know this week has been full of drivel and awards (which are not drivel) but I promise the stories are coming back. I can feel them and I hope you are still reading.

Happy Wednesday, you are on the hump. I'm going to the pool!

Sometimes the stories come--and sometimes they don't. Don't worry. Accepting awards is a worthy post. 200 - I don't think I'll ever get there. Best start writing.

That's awesome, Jules!
It took me a while to find my voice. I found it was easier if I was just me - just Alex.
And that's a mighty fine award.

I've become much braver in posting and, because of all my lovely followers, I try to vary the types of things I post about. I do try to stay true to myself, venting or pondering as needed. But I also try to participate in group things. It has made me sit up and make an extra effort as far as quality...except when I'm tired, like this week :P Congrats on your milestone and your award!

A wee bit funny, moi? An odd Brit, a tad crazy and rather strange is my description of me. ☺

Congratulations on the 200th post. You and I have so much in common as far as the unemployment and turning to blogging and all that comes with that. I'll post my reflections as I approach my one year of blogging anniversary. Getting close to my 365th post which will come before the blogoversary since there were a few days when I did more than 1 post.
Anyhow, glad I found your blog and look forrward to the next 100 posts.
