All Blogs Have White Space

Saturday, July 17, 2010

I was up way too early this morning and while sitting in total silence I became aware of a hidden space. Not an ordinary space. If fact, I venture to say most would not even notice it as space. Still I found it; want to know where it is? Can I tell you what you will find?

Unless you look close, you think it to be an empty, void space and assume nothing to be there. That assumption would be wrong. This is anything but an empty or void space, I even wonder if it has enough space. I know, what is this space I keep referring to? Well, it is right here, can you not see it? Look closer.

The hidden space I speak of is there, between the lines. Haven’t you noticed; none of the letters touch, none of the lines run together, there is room there to hide things. “But there is nothing there,” you say and to this I have to ask “Are you merely looking at the lines?”

If you merely read the lines the words are all you will ever see. You will miss the heart of the story, the soul of writer and all the wonderful images they hide there in that seemingly, blank white. Reading the lines as written was a school assignment and it will not tell you the story or allow you see what lies between the lines.

In that same silence I began to see what you had hid in this often over looked space. I saw the laughs that were meant to disguise the pain and heard the plea to send a smile back your way. I recanted the heartache of missed loved ones and saw that time had not yet healed you. I wanted so bad to hug this character.

I laughed when I realized all the space that held the blood red faces; full of frustration, screaming “Save me” was there for the laugh. I felt my heart beat an extra beat when I read of the ones who try to make the world a better place and educate us all. It is amazing what you find in plain white space.

I thank my lucky stars; I read between the lines. I see what things you hide in that blank space and I must ask? Before you pass on that not well written piece, full of misspellings and told in some strange dialect, close your eyes and……

Allow yourself to “"read again between the lines.” Something is hidden there.
