Elena Kagan: Supreme Court Nominee

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

So the President nominated a woman, Elena Kagan, for the Supreme Court, what’s the big deal? I would think the Dean of Harvard law would be an excellent candidate’ after all she has transformed legal minds into the attorneys we know today. So who is the first person I see questioning her ability? Why of course my ole buddy Mitch McConnell.

I would think that a person who can explain the law to a novice law student to be a fine candidate but apparently this is not the case. It seems there are people who feel that rather than have a vast knowledge of the law; you must possess a vast knowledge of ways around the law to be Supreme Justice. Poor Mitch!

I would think to be a justice one would need to listen to the argument, weigh both sides and then to right any injustice presented, not merely say, “Yes sir I see, what ever you think best.” Though it is evident there are those who think this more important, poor Mitch.

A justice should find ways to uphold our constitution and should an injustice not be covered in that constitution is brave enough to challenge that omission. Challenging “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” into allowing all Americans the right to die for this country should be a positive thing, not to Mitch.

Personally I applaud any woman who is making her way to the top and is not doing so on the coat tails of some man. I am a firm believer in the “Left brain, Right brain” theory. Men think with the left side, women with the right, it takes a balance of each to make a complete brain. I guess this is Mitch’s problem.

He comes from the “Good ole boy” state of Kentucky where it is ran by a bunch of hunters and gathers or you might say all left brain. The only women Mitch has to face are those in the secretary pool. Poor Mitch.

To justice nominee Elena Kagan I say, “You go girl.” I would love to say I was there when the first woman was nominated in 1981 and when three sat judicially in 2010.

Starting to gain a few seats for our majority numbers. Finally. Would like to see more women on the bench - and in McConnell's seats as well.
