Mother Nature: The Sun Is Shining

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Ah, the joy and agony of what spring has to bring for us. I do not know about you, but where I am for the first time in a month the sun is shining. It arose in an array of beautiful colors, the sky then became crystal clear blue and for once I did not need to wrap a blanket around me to get to my robe. Just looking out the window and seeing this sky gives my heart a ray of hope brighter days are coming.

It has been a long, hard winter for most of us Americans and warm, bright, sunny days are just what the doctor ordered. It brings out the hidden smiles we have been storing up all winter, makes us feel happy, and in general just changes our outlook on the day. Spring does have its challenges though and best we not forget; “in like a lamb, out like a lion.” Mother Nature tends to remind us in every season who really is the boss.

So now that I have given Mother Nature her dues, there are just a few things I will not miss about winter.

  1. I will not miss shoveling snow, of course this is a given.
  2. I will not miss sliding into the car wash to remove the salt from my vehicle.
  3. I will not miss my feet being cold. Reminder; I have to find some battery socks on sale.
  4. I will not miss hearing my knees pop getting out of bed.
  5. I will not miss cold toilet seats.
  6. I will not miss looking 20 pounds heavier due to the multiple layers required for winter.
  7. I will not miss my glasses fogging up after getting out of the shower and not knowing until it is too late that my hair is still wild.
  8. I will not miss chapped lips and looking like I'm wearing hooker red lip stick.
  9. I will not miss all the scroll bars telling me the town is closed and my grandmother insist she read them to me because she thinks my TV does not have them.
  10. I will not miss static electricity. Even the toilet handle got me this year. Lord, I hate static electricity.
I have survived all of these inconveniences and then some. I am ready for the seasonal transition, so bring on the sunshine and flip flops. This by the way is my shoe of choice. I don't know about you but I'm totally ready for brighter days.

If you have things you would like to add to the list leave a comment. Let's see how many things about winter we can honestly say we will not miss.
